Living in apartment or condominium is not really like living in landed property, be it in Malaysia or in any other part of the world. There are boundaries we need to follow, rules to obey and most importantly, neighbours to interact with. For landed property, although it might be more expensive then those of parcel units (flat/apartment/condo), it has its own advantages and disadvantages. I'm not going into the characteristics of landed property but then again, i would like to stress some of the benefits of living in landed property that would be otherwise, something kinda disadvantage in parcel living.
First and foremost, if you are able to live in both worlds (landed and parcel), you would definitely notice that there are no rules and regulation living on a piece of land, so called yours, except ethical limitations. This rules and regulations here basically refers to community living portion. Although we live in one so called area or 'Taman', you really have an option not to care about anything that might govern the area by the community living there. You can even park your car anywhere as long as it does not obstruct the traffic flow in your area but, you can't do the same in apartment living. There are rules and regulations on where to park your vehicle and i might say, this is only one of the example of living in apartment. So, basically, rules and regulations are very important in parcel living. Why do rules and regulations important when it does not come significantly important to landed property?
In a parcel living area, the size of the place is not so big in comparison with the landed property where by 10 units of landed property might be equivalent to a parcel living building that might houses 150 units. Therefore, small space with so many people living in it bound to created more issue. Futhermore, with a share common area like swimming pool, gym, lifts and others to go around, differences sure to arise based on different usage methods. If there is no rules and regulations govern all this, then we would be wasting most of our time maintaining something that could easily last for 5 years without breaking down. Having to share everything under the same roof is not easy with with human in the way, there is meaning of common anymore. It's basically about catering to different needs from different background and culture of people. It's not easy but somebody have to do it. Unlike parcel living, landed property does not has this issue and the only thing in common about this place is the road leading to their unit. Then again, normally this kind of road is govern by local council which has all the power necessary to control all the people living under their organisation.
So, before buying parcel unit, please keep in mind of rules and regulations which normally bind the parcel living owners to its organisation. If you can't accept the fact that your everyday lives is govern like this then you should not have purchase this place at all in the first place. Take note, rules and regulations are there for a reason, please don't questions them so much. Personal gained rules and regulation often fails before being implemented and therefore, being hypocrite about it won't help your stay as well.
